While many healthcare IT purchasing decisions are made in the boardroom, clinicians are the ones on the front lines in the patient room using devices and software. They work where technology touches patient care. That's why it's vital that nurses and doctors be part of the health IT purchasing process.
We spoke with Cheryl Parker, senior clinical informatics specialist at Rubbermaid Healthcare and a contributing faculty member in the Nursing Informatics Program at Walden University, who provided some keen insight about the role of the CIOs in a healthcare organization, top tips for working with clinicians, and one of the best example she's seen for including clinicians in the healthcare technology evaluation process.
